Why is Nesquik 0% unhealthy?

Since the start of the pandemic, many have been realizing the poor diet they had, so they began to reduce certain foods such as ultra-processed ones. Within this group of foods are soluble cocoas, and yes, the new Nesquik 0% sugar also enters. Now we are going to see that it is not entirely 0% sugar, since it has sweeteners that are not recommended and pure cocoa has less than 40%.

Soluble cocoa is a fixed element in millions of homes in Spain and the rest of the world, so it is not surprising that it becomes one of the first changes when we want to adopt good lifestyle habits.

The conventional Nesquik has 75.1 grams of sugar per 100 grams of product. However, this supposed 0% sugar Nesquik has only 4.8 grams of sugars , but it is not refined white sugar, but a couple of artificial sweeteners that are not recommended, especially sucralose.

It’s not healthy at all

On the bottle they indicate that it contains Stevia, and for months this sweetener has become famous as one of the healthiest options. And it is true, it is one of the best options, but not at the level of erythritol.

The Stevia in the package makes us believe that it is the only sweetener, but the reality is that it also has sucralose , which is one of the worst options that we consume together with sorbitol, maltitol, fructose, glucose syrup, aspartame, acesulfame K , etc.

Nesquik 0% azúcar

Apart from the sucralose sweetener, this Nesquik 0% is not healthy due to the ingredients. They want to sell it to us as pure cocoa powder and it is very little pure. In addition, it is quite a lie to give this product a Nutri-Score category A. It really should be the D, not just because of the sucralose, but because of the ingredients:

Rice flour (42%), defatted cocoa powder (37%), gluten-free oatmeal (20%), natural flavor, salt, sweeteners (sucralose, steviol glycosides), cinnamon. May contain soy.

We are actually eating flour that is dark in color because of the defatted cocoa powder. For cocoa powder to be healthy, it should be at least 70% . For example, the Valor brand has jars of defatted cocoa powder with different purity percentages. This is great for us to make the transition process between sweetened soluble cocoa and 100% pure cocoa, which is very healthy.

The rest of the nutritional values of Nesquik 0% per 100 grams of product are not good either:

  • Energy value: 49 kilocalories.
  • Fats: 0.5 grams.
    • Saturated fat: 0.5 grams.
  • Carbohydrates: 7.1 grams.
    • Sugars: 4.8 grams.
  • Proteins: 4 grams.
  • Salt: 14 grams.

In general, it is better than the conventional Nesquik , it is true, but we do not believe the marketing strategy where only Stevia is highlighted and they paint us that it is sugar-free with an image that implies that it is very healthy, when in reality, it would be healthier to drink 100% pure cocoa.

If we prefer to consume this product instead of its healthy alternative, then we will have to reduce our intake. That is, take only one tablespoon for a glass of 250 ml of milk (preferably vegetable and without added sugar), and do it a maximum of 3 times a week.
