Radar COVID: this is how the application works to detect cases of coronavirus

The Spanish Government announced a month ago the launch of an application to track coronavirus cases. Radar COVID is not about geolocation, or sharing data with each other. Do not fear, no one will know who you have been with or what your personal data is, it is totally anonymous.

For it to work properly, all you have to do is have the app and bluetooth activated. When the mobiles are close to each other, they will "communicate" and save the information to know which ones they have been close to for more than 15 minutes.

When you download Radar COVID you will realize that it does not ask for personal data at any time. It will only require having active Bluetooth to continue working. You do not have to register or phone numbers, names or type of identification. The system gives us an identifier code that we cannot even access, so the rule of being completely anonymous is met.

When a person tests positive for COVID, a key will appear in their medical report to enter in the " Send your diagnosis " section to confirm the positive. In this way there will be no doubts about possible false positives and the application will know that you are a real case.

As soon as this data has been entered, people who have been in contact with that mobile for more than 15 minutes will receive an alert indicating that someone with whom you were close for at least 15 minutes has tested positive for coronavirus . At no time will you know who the positive is, nor will the positive know who their possible infections have been. So you can be a close friend and not even have knowledge of your identity.

With this information we can start the process to be tested for COVID-19. However, you must bear in mind that this procedure is different in each Autonomous Community, and as health competencies are derived from each Autonomous Community, it is not yet implemented in all of them at the same time.

Is it sure that my privacy is not invaded?

A Twitter user has collected the permissions that the most used applications usually ask for, such as Instagram, WhatsApp or Tik Tok. The Government of Spain does not seek to control you, nor listen to your calls or access your contacts. Dare to collaborate in this fight and stay safe from possible infections.

It is now available for free for iOS and Android devices .
