Low calorie broccoli dumplings (and without frying!)

Meatballs or fritters are typical recipes that our grandmothers made to finish with some leftovers from the fridge. If you want to make a fit, healthy and low-calorie version, today we show you the recipe for broccoli meatballs with cheese, without frying!

Many are afraid to eat this type of food because they think of the oil at high temperatures entering the meatball, but if we make them in the oven, we will only be roasting them. Another highly recommended option is air fryers, which work just like the oven (but for small amounts).

Plus, it's a fun way to eat broccoli. If you hate this vegetable or want to vary the presentation a bit in your diet, I assure you that you will love them. We have chosen two types of cheese (which we think are very good for shaping the balls), but you can choose the one that you like the most.

We encourage you to try other broccoli-based recipes:

  • Broccoli and cheese soup
  • Quinoa, broccoli and salmon burger
  • Rice with curry and broccoli
  • Low calorie omelette

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped broccoli
  • 3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup ricotta or feta cheese
  • Half a tablespoon of basil

Preparation

We make the dough

In a large bowl, we introduce all the ingredients and stir so that the dough of our meatballs forms.

We shape

We take small portions of dough and make balls with our hands. Don't go overboard with size either, ideally you can eat them with a few bites.

We pass them for breadcrumbs

We pass all the meatballs over the breadcrumbs.

Now is when you can put them in a tupper and freeze them for 3 months. If you live alone and don't want to make broccoli dumplings every week, that's a great idea!

Baked!

They are special meatballs, since we are not going to fry them.

We put them in the oven (190ºC) for 25 minutes, making sure they don't burn.
You can also use an air fryer, which also doesn't use oil in the process.
