6 foods you shouldn't eat on the beach

Now that the sun is out, the temperatures are rising and the days are getting longer, it’s no wonder everyone wants to go to the beach on vacation. And while everyone talks about the foods you shouldn’t eat before you go swimming, there’s actually a list of forbidden foods that aren’t suitable for the beach, in general.

Eating the wrong foods can make us feel bloated and uncomfortable, which is not ideal for spending a day in a bikini or swimsuit. Additionally, some foods and drinks can even make us more sensitive to the sun’s UV rays. That is why we should think twice before packing any of the following items in the beach bag.

White wine

We know it’s more refreshing than red, but leave Chardonnay at home. Some recent studies suggest that consuming certain types of alcohol, especially white wine, may increase your chances of getting melanoma and other types of skin cancer.

This type of alcohol removes antioxidants and essential vitamins that help you resist the sun’s damaging rays. It is even higher for those who drink seven or more drinks per week. However, red wine is great for helping you avoid those terrible UV rays.

Beef

Summer and a burger go hand in hand like nothing else, but eating one on the beach can make us feel really hot, and not in a good way.

Science shows that the high protein and fat content found in beef makes it more difficult for the body to digest, so it has to use more energy. This causes a rise in body temperature, which can make the summer heat feel even more unbearable.

Doritos

All chips are hard to put down, but none are more addictive than Doritos. The recipe was specially designed so that no flavor outweighs another. And when foods lack a dominant flavor, people are less likely to feel full and, in turn, consume more.

One of the first ingredients on the Dorito label is monosodium glutamate (MSG), an additive known to increase appetite and make foods taste more appetizing. It is recommended to stay away from this addictive snack when we are on the beach.

Coffee

There is a time and a place for a cup of coffee, and the beach is not one of them. First, coffee acts as a diuretic, which means that consuming it will cause the body to expel more salt and water, leaving us dehydrated.

Additionally, coffee has been shown to promote gastrin release, which can increase colonic tip and motor activity. So we may want to go to the toilet to poop.

sausages

Reconsider that beachside lunch sandwich. A standard serving of deli meat contains up to 790 milligrams of sodium, one-third of the recommended daily intake. Now, think about it, most people stack their bread with a lot more meat than what’s considered “standard,” and processed cheese isn’t much better. Some varieties, like feta, have 400 milligrams of salt in a quarter-cup serving.

Foods that are high in sodium, such as deli meats, bacon, and cheeses, cause water retention. And that swelling and excess water can make cellulite more visible.

Refreshments

We’re not sure why anyone would want to drink sugary carbonated drinks on the beach. Sugar has been shown to accelerate the disappearance of collagen, which can lead to the appearance of cellulite.

While the sweet stuff is found in everything from bread to cereal, it’s found most abundantly in sweetened beverages like processed juices, energy drinks, sodas, and even diet sodas. We’ll just drink water on the beach and feel our best.
