The Hoka Clifton Edge shoes seek to compete with Nike and Adidas

Hoka One One has never shied away from creating the best running shoes with the thickest midsoles imaginable. With its latest offering, the new Hoka Clifton Edge , the brand took heel extension to a new level. Should Nike and Adidas be concerned?

The Clifton Edge features a unique extended heel geometry designed to provide " smooth impact for a gliding feel as you move, " as the manufacturer claims. These sneakers have a new foam in the midsole that is softer and lighter than previous Hoka midsoles: according to the press release, the weight of these sneakers will be around 250 grams , which is much lighter than I would expect when viewing the images.

New features for better performance

As a new extension to the Clifton franchise, the Clifton Edge is designed to make running shoes more accessible and enjoyable for a wider audience of runners. Knowing this, we can safely assume that Clifton Edge will not be the most streamlined and optimized running shoe on the market and will compete with similar and comfortable high cushioning running shoes such as ASICS Novablast or Nike Joyride Run Flyknit.

To celebrate the launch of Clifton Edge, HOKA also announced the HOKA Ekiden Strava Challenge to " promote the global movement and the spirit of uniting, " as the brand stated in the press release. Starting June 29 and for four weeks, participants will be encouraged to run at least 5K per week for the duration of the challenge, and can participate individually or in a virtual team of four. Those who complete the challenge will be entered to win a pair of Clifton Edge.
