Apple Fitness +: new streaming service to get in shape

In August, Amazon announced the launch of its fitness tracker app called Halo. Now, one of the five technological powers in the world wants to enter the fitness space.

Apple announced " the first fitness experience created for Apple Watch, called Fitness + ". It is a subscription service available to Apple users that aims to provide " class-style workouts " for people of all fitness levels from anywhere.

It will connect to other Apple, iPad, iPhone or Apple TV products , to display training metrics, such as heart rate and calories burned, on the screen with animations.

How does it work? Basic features of the app

Apple Fitness + uses a custom recommendation engine to suggest workouts based on an individual's personal training history within the service; that is, if a user shows a pattern of a certain type of preferred workout, Fitness + will recommend workouts that are similar.

Apple has built in a filtering tool that can help users isolate a particular type of workout they are looking for, which can then be saved for future replay. Filters include:

  • Type of exercise
  • Coach
  • Duration
  • Music

Users will be able to share their activity with whoever they want, as well as their social media channels. Service metrics will allow users to track their progress over time.

Who is it for? – Release date and price

This application is aimed at both advanced athletes and beginners . Part of the motivational aspect is giving users access to an optional feature to enable competition called the " Burn Bar ." This section will show how a user's metrics compare to those of other users who recently completed the same training. Users will be able to train with and without equipment. So you could "compete" with whoever you want.

So far, Apple has announced 21 trainers who will lead the Fitness + workouts on its Instagram page. Workouts can include a variety of activities, from cycling, running, dancing, and high-intensity interval training to strength training , rowing, and yoga . It is quite reminiscent of the streaming service that Les Mills has.

The service does not have a launch date yet, but it will be available in late 2020 on the new Fitness app via iPhone. Its price will be € 9.99 per month or € 79.99 per year (including a free month).
