Do you know what is the most common injury in Spaniards?

Spaniards are at the head of many lists, and also the first starting at the end. This is not a competition, this is about living well and healthily, so as not to suffer the consequences of bad habits when 15 years pass. In relation to this comes a new study that tells us which is the most common injury in Spain, and the truth is that it has not surprised us too much.

According to the WHO, musculoskeletal disorders are the main causes of disability in the world. With this they refer to injuries and pain in the knees, elbows, hands, back pain, shoulders, neck, etc. They are common and very annoying pains that make it impossible for us to carry out our usual tasks.

Sanitas has opened a Rehabilitation Center in the heart of Castellana de Madrid and using that inauguration as an excuse, they have given brushstrokes on other interesting data such as, for example, the most common pains in Spain.

It is known that 4 out of 10 Spaniards suffer from back pain on a regular basis. Likewise, 2 out of 10 respondents say they suffer from pain in the neck and shoulders. In addition, 1 in 10 Spaniards regularly experience pain in the upper extremities, lower extremities or chronic pain.

Back pain is the most common injury

According to Sanitas, 7 out of 10 Spaniards feel musculoskeletal pain that prevents them from carrying out their usual tasks and usually corresponds to back pain . We take the opportunity to say that, if we feel pain, discomfort or something is not working the same as before, we must go to the doctor, since a “nonsense” or something specific, can turn into chronic pain or serious injury.

Pain is not a normal situation, so we should not get used to it and it is an unequivocal sign that something is not right and we have to remedy it immediately.

Aging causes wear, especially in the joints, but that does not mean we have to live with pain, we can delve into the problem and find a solution, be it back pain, knee pain, hand pain, etc.

Children, meanwhile, tend to suffer momentary pain, especially in growing-up joints. So in principle they are not worrisome pains, but as parents we must be aware of possible lameness, discomfort or uneven growth.

From Sanitas they report that rest after an ailment is important, but it is even more important to attack the real cause. We again insist that a sprain today, a crunch in the knee, a blow to the elbow, etc. It is that, today, but if it does not heal well it could be a more serious injury.

Learning to tread saves injuries

It may seem silly to “teach how to walk”, but if we were taught to walk well from a young age, we would save a lot of injuries and pain. The shape of our footprint directly affects musculoskeletal health and, therefore, our daily life.

You have to stay active, and we can correct the footprint with the right shoes, with professional help and even with special insoles adapted to our foot and the problems we have.

The risk of injuries, pain in the future and such can be corrected much earlier, in addition to the importance of playing sports and staying active. Spain is among the most sedentary and inactive countries in Europe, and this passive attitude causes health problems such as obesity, diabetes, chronic pain, joint wear, etc.
