Apple is set to announce a new, cheaper Apple Watch, under the name Apple Watch SE, along with the Apple Watch Series 6 at the worldwide event on September 15. This will help ease that urge for the iPhone 12 launch, which was delayed until October.
Apple typically introduces a new Watch model at the top of the range and then leaves previous models on sale at a cheaper price to allow buyers more pricing options. You get the latest features if you spend more, or you can save with a slightly older model. This is the first time that Apple has introduced a low-priced model , mimicking its approach with the iPhone SE compared to higher-end iPhones.
Apple Watch Series 6: Enhanced Features
Visually, we found the Series 4 and 5 to be quite similar, so it was time for an aesthetic update with the Series 6. We didn't want the watch to get bigger as we believe the current 40mm and 44mm are perfect, but perhaps the body could be made slimmer, with reduced bezels and a slightly larger screen.
The new Watch Series 6 uses a microLED screen instead of the OLED that is used today. This would consume less power and could mean longer battery life. Plus, it comes with a faster processor ( twice as fast as the Series 3 ) and improved waterproofing .
Apple's upcoming iOS 14 iPhone software, leaked in early March, revealed the basics of a sleep-tracking Watch app . Although there are numerous third-party sleep tracking apps out there, this is the first we've seen of Apple making its own. This suggests that Apple is confident enough in the Series 6's battery life, as it previously didn't offer sleep tracking due to the battery struggling to last a full 24 hours for the most intense watch users.
It also features a new watch face with a tachymeter complication and a way to set custom watch faces for friends; plus a tool called Schooltime to help parents manage their children's Apple Watch applications.
Also seeking a new health and fitness function, it has a sensor to track the user's blood oxygen level (a 15-second reading) and improvements to the existing ECG application; as well as fall detector and altimeter .
2020 isn't the best year to go outdoors, but the new Apple Watch has outdoor features anyway, including an always-on display 2.5 times brighter , which is brighter when dimmed, not when in full visibility.
Apple Watch SE: a watch with a sale price
Apple just announced a new and cheaper watch , called the Apple Watch SE.
This is the first time Apple has introduced a low-priced model, mimicking its approach with the iPhone SE compared to higher-end iPhones. The Apple Watch SE uses the same design as the Series 6, but features the S5 processor (instead of the S6).
Where the Watch SE differs from the Series 6 is that it won't have an always-on display, no ECG, and of course no blood oxygen sensor.
It will be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, in aluminum only .
