Good news for fans of the best running shoes! Adidas has just announced the new Adizero Adios Pro, a distance running shoe that replaces the currently very popular method of attaching a full-size carbon plate to the midsole with the placement of Carbon Infused EnergyRods in the midsole.
" Together with elite running athletes including Joyciline Jepkosgei and Rhonex Kipruto, Adidas jointly created something that challenged everything they previously understood about flexural stiffness, energy return, mass reduction and design geometry " , continues the press release.
Looking at the pictures, it is evident that the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro has a thick foam sole , it is not surprising. In fact, Adidas is maximizing height – the 39.5mm is just below the 40mm height limit set by the World Athletics Association earlier this year, in response to the controversy surrounding the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% .

Adidas chose to be fully anatomical with the design of the new EnergyRods: " Using anatomical information from the athlete, the EnergyRods consist of five tuned carbon-infused rods that mimic the foot's metatarsal bones, allowing runners to maintain their speed for longer, optimizing the functioning of the economy ". In theory, it means less physical impact on the runner's body and a faster recovery after long distance efforts.
Carbon- infused EnergyRods form the core of the adizero adios Pro midsole, featuring two layers of LightstrikePRO, Adidas' " lightest and most responsive foam ". The original Lightstrike foam midsole debuted earlier this year in the Adidas SL20, an affordable yet responsive yet affordable mid-distance running shoe.
The adizero adios Pro midsole is completed with a carbon fiber and nylon heel plate that, combined with the EnergyRods, " provides stability for the ankle joint and corrects the flexing behavior of the runner's foot for a smooth ride ", the press release concludes.
