Meet the Super Nintendo World theme park that will open in Japan

After years of waiting for fans of the saga of the most popular plumber of all time, Mario Bros, the Super Nintendo World theme park is now a reality. After having to reschedule its opening due to Covid-19, in February 2021 you will be able to enjoy the world of Mario in a big way … in real life! We invite you to visit this incredible park that, we are sure, you will want to visit.

What will the Super Nintendo World theme park be like?

In Japan they are working at full steam to be able to finish the Super Nintendo World theme park. After the project was announced in 2015, we know that the non-extendable date of its opening will be in 2021. In reality, we all expected the park to open after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; However, due to the coronavirus crisis, we have had to wait a little longer. Mark the date on the calendar: the park will open on February 4 next year.

Currently, the Super Nintendo World is under construction and it is estimated that the project is costing between 310 and 490 million euros and will be the first of its kind. We tell you that it will open its doors within the mythical Universal Studios of Japan (Osaka) and it is expected that there will also be another 3 in Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore.

Although the Super Nintendo World theme park has not yet opened, you can visit the cafeteria and the Mario Bros store that opened in October this year in the Hollywood part of Universal Studios. The Super Mario video game comes to life and it does it as only Nintendo and Universal Studios could have done it: in style.

Here you will find a rose-colored site (literally) with a replica of the castle tower that appears in video games , something that reminds us of Disney parks. You can also see the pole with the pennant that Mario climbs when completing a level, or statues of Goombas and carnivorous plants. Of course, as in any theme park, you will meet the most iconic characters from Super Mario Bros, to whom you can greet and take the required photograph with them.

Thanks to the very famous AR (augmented reality) technology and video mapping you can use AR headphones in the shape of the Mario Bros cap and move around the park interacting with the most famous characters such as Toad, Luigi and Princess Peach.

Attractions at the Super Nintendo World theme park

Although the park is expected to expand over time, at the time of opening there will be 2 attractions that will be available for the whole family: the challenge of Koopa and the adventure of Yoshi.

Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge

Who doesn’t like Mario Kart? It is a game that many enjoy and now you can take it from the screen to real life thanks to the Super Nintendo World theme park . Thanks to technology, now you can compete with your friends and challenge them with projectiles and meet Mario and Princess Peach at the finish line. And it is a reality: here you will find karts equipped with a steering wheel and you can collect objects and launch projectiles at your opponents and you can even recreate the mythical Rainbow Road of the video game.

You can access the Koopa challenge through a replica of Bowser’s castle.

Yoshi’s Adventure

Yoshi is that character in the saga who appears when you least expect it to make your life easier on any level. In the video game, Mario can climb on Yoshi’s back and soar for brief periods of time in the air and eat his enemies. At the Super Nintendo World theme park you have to hold on to Yoshi while you meet Captain Toad on a treasure hunt.

You know, if you are a fan of Mario Bros video games, Toad loves surprises, hiding chests and playing the game. In the attraction “Yoshi’s Adventure”, you can use a Toad map to find 3 mysterious eggs.

On this fun family outing, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Mushroom Kingdom from Mount Beanpole (another place of worship present in Super Mario 3D World )

A video game in real life

We never tire of saying that the Super Nintendo World is like a video game taken off the screen and into the real world. We are not lying to you: here you can see, know and touch the objects that you know very well since Mario Bros came to the world. But in Nintendo World you can not only ride the attractions, you can also continue playing as if you were at home with your console.

We tell you that another great attraction of the park are the key challenges of the Power Up Band. It basically consists of getting a bracelet at the park entrance, pairing it with your phone and overcoming the challenges that the park itself imposes on you. For example, you can collect coins, virtual items, and everything you already know from video games, but in the real world.

One of the challenges of the Power Up Band is to help Peach recover a golden mushroom; Bowser has taken the famous mushroom, how could it be otherwise. With the Power Up Band and your smartphone, you can play interactive games and collect 3 keys and, in the end, you will face an exciting battle in which you will have to defeat Bowser.
