Can a gluten-free diet lead to obesity and diabetes?

Going around several Spanish newspapers or websites of food advice, we find statements like "gluten-free diets increase the risk of diabetes and obesity." You just have to have a little common sense to realize that this is totally false. If a person is diagnosed with celiac disease, they will not have to suffer from diabetes or increase their weight by eating a gluten-free diet.

Are gluten-free foods better?

Gluten-free foods should be focused in the vast majority on those who have intolerance. It is not necessary to take gluten-free products to be healthier or have a better diet. It would be the same with lactose, can we drink milk without lactose without being intolerant? Of course, but you would not be bringing any benefit to your body either. If a food or component does not feel bad, why should you eliminate it from your diet?

Do you see the food in this image? Yes, they are also gluten free. Surprised? When we think of gluten-free foods, only pastries, bread or industrial products come to mind, but we forget that many organic foods do not contain gluten. It is evident that those who claim that celiac disease increases diabetes and obesity due to their diet, want to alert a population without information.

Those who mistakenly consider that gluten-free pastries are better, healthier and less caloric, it is normal that they lead to diseases. Donuts, muffins, cereals, cookies or sandwiches are going to make you fat the same, whether they have gluten or not.
Now we understand the absurd relationship they attribute to obesity with a gluten-free diet.

What happens if we are diagnosed with gluten intolerance but we have a balanced diet rich in vegetables? Indeed, you are not going to suffer from any of these named problems. eye! The same happens in reverse. If before we had a bad diet and as a result of the diagnosis, we increased our consumption of fruits and vegetables, the "problem" of losing weight will not be from a gluten-free diet. Trying to link gluten to obesity or weight loss is absurd.
