Types of pain and their solutions

The perception of pain varies from one person to another : one person may have a broken bone and not even realize it, while another may feel significant pain from the same injury. Pain is perceived through the nerve endings in the body, which carry the sensation to the brain; and, since each person’s body is different, their nerve fibers and brain can react differently to the same stimuli. That is why there are different types of pain.

Likewise, not everyone reacts the same way to remedies that can treat that pain. Therefore, it is important that there are different options on the pharmacological market that can be used to relieve all types of pain . A good example is Dolifaes, which has a wide range of specific solutions formulated to effectively relieve muscle and joint pain, both punctual and chronic.

What are the different types of pain?

To classify pain, criteria such as intensity, duration and location are taken into account. For example, depending on the duration, the pain can be chronic or punctual; depending on the intensity, it can be acute or mild; and, depending on its location, it can be muscular or joint. In this way, pain is usually classified into five types of pain:

sharp pain

Acute pain is the most annoying of all and is characterized by a strong intensity . It is usually related to a soft tissue injury or temporary illness, so it usually subsides once the injury heals or the disease subsides. Acute pain from an injury can turn into chronic pain if the injury does not heal properly.

Chronic pain

Chronic pain is one that is maintained continuously over time . It can be constant or intermittent. For example, headaches can be considered chronic pain when they last for many months or years, even though the pain is not always present.

Neuropathic pain

Neuropathic pain is due to damage to nerves or other parts of the nervous system. It is often described as a stabbing, sharp, or burning pain , or a prickling sensation. It can also affect sensitivity or cause mobility problems.

nociceptive pain

This type of pain is usually experienced in the joints, muscles, skin, tendons, and bones. It can be both acute and chronic. This pain is caused by damage to body tissue as a result of an external injury , for example hitting areas such as the elbow, toe, or scraping a knee. It is often described as a sharp, stabbing, or throbbing pain.

root pain

It is characterized in that it radiates from the point where the focus of pain is to other parts of the body and causes tingling, numbness and muscle weakness . The most common form of radicular pain is lumbar radiculopathy (better known as sciatica), in which the pain spreads from the lower back to the legs via the sciatic nerve.

When is pain normal and when should I go to the doctor?

Most pain is a normal response to injury or illness and does not require a visit to the doctor. As a general rule, if the pain does not last long and the cause is known, it can be treated at home with both pharmacological treatment and local heat or cold and rest. But if the pain is severe, lasts longer than you think it should for the injury or illness, or you don’t know what’s causing it, you may want to call your doctor.
