A sedentary lifestyle is a very negative attitude for health, since it causes serious consequences in our body. Now, a study conducted in Europe has made it clear which country is the most sedentary. As a result of that we have two news, one good and one bad, the first is that we are not the first, and the second is that we are in the top 5.

A study carried out in 29 European countries has made it clear that the rate of sedentary lifestyle remains alarmingly high. This is a grassroots problem that begins with education and lifestyle .

The survey was carried out through an online platform called Global Advisor and Ipsos and the World Economic Forum have collaborated. The ages of the respondents are between 18 and 74 years old and the countries are the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and Turkey, among others where Spain is located.

In each country, samples of about 1,000 people have been collected, a total of 21,503 people surveyed freely. Once the survey is finished, the final results are weighted so that the final composition of the samples is minimally representative of reality.

Spain, a country with sedentary lifestyle

According to the Ipsos study “Public opinion on the practice of exercise and team sports” what was intended was to know the relationship that the citizens of a country had with sport. The results are devastating in some corners of the planet where there are high rates of sedentary lifestyle.

In Spain, and according to the study, we only spend 5.2 hours a week doing sports , which is considered a pittance. We have already explained on several occasions that we have to have a healthy lifestyle and that includes a rich and varied diet, far from ultra-processed, soft drinks, sugar, salt, fats, trans, etc. and do sports for at least 30 minutes a day, or at least perform a moderate intensity activity several times a week.

At least the intention is present, since the respondents in Spain claim that they would like to do more sport. What prevents practicing it? Well, according to the answers they gave, lack of time is the biggest inconvenience that keeps us from wanting to be more active.

What sports are practiced most frequently?

The most practiced sport globally is fitness , but also 19% of those surveyed said they went out for a run frequently, 13% said they did cycling , while 10% mentioned soccer.

In Spain, fitness was placed in the first position, being the fourth country in Europe that most practices this sport and behind were countries such as Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. After fitness there are other sports that are popular in the Spanish population such as swimming, running and cycling.

Either way, the important thing is to get out of the house, clear your mind and practice sports, even if it is walking, we can use sand weights or dumbbells, so we make a greater physical effort.
