Discover the best summer markets in Spain

There is no town without a flea market and there is no summer worth its salt that does not include one, or several, walks in search of a good bargain. The markets are part of our Mediterranean culture and all of us – or at least, many of us – love to lose ourselves among the stalls. It is not that we always carry the intention to buy, but the truth is that if we find a good offer, why not indulge ourselves?

There are also those who deny them and those who swear and perjure that they have never bought anything in a market. Worse for them.

The truth is that it is what markets you can find everything. From a lot of fashion , retro or grandma fashion, to potatoes or olives, to a comb, a set of underwear or some nuts. Yes, that’s how diverse and fun it is to take a walk through the town’s market. That is why it is perfect to go with family or friends, with your partner or your parents. All of them can find something that they like and are interested in. Everyone will enjoy the market.

Las Dalias is the best known and most important hippy market. It will be because it is in Ibiza, an island that is always in fashion and that attracts the best of each house. And although hippism is a little past – we are not going to fool ourselves – the truth is that Las Dalias knows how to attract the general public. Different markets: the medieval summer markets

In addition to the traditional markets, we also have a good handful of medieval markets. They are totally different. It is not a place to go in search of fashion and accessories, it is a trip to the Middle Ages to search for home remedies, spices, fragrances and artisan foods. But above all it is a journey through time. Beautifully decorated villages, lit by torches and with half of their inhabitants in disguise, they help you immerse yourself in another era in history. It is about tasting delicious delicacies on wooden tables, served by innkeepers and set by minstrels, troubadours and magicians. Quite an experience.

Many of the best medieval markets are held to coincide with the bridge on August 15. Among them, the Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora), the Alburquerque Medieval Festival (Badajoz) or the Medieval Consuegra (Toledo) stand out. The Medieval Market of Ávila also stands out, at the beginning of September.

Although it is not medieval, the Renaissance Week of Medina del Campo (Valladolid) deserves a mention and a visit. It is celebrated around the third week of August and transforms the city and its people into a Renaissance Medina del Campo. It is adorned with banners and flags to recreate great past events, as well as craft fairs or community markets. Everything so that the visitor feels in another era. Without a doubt, it deserves a visit.
